December 16, 2012 The Enchanted Village

Took the kids to see The Enchanted Village at Jordan's Furniture.

A Little History of the display

The Spirit of Boston’s Holidays
Throughout the 1960s and into the 1970s, Jordan Marsh displayed the Enchanted Village in its Downtown Crossing store. The heart-warming display quickly became an integral part of New England’s seasonal celebrations. Until 1972, when Jordan Marsh closed the display, a trip to The Village was a traditional event.
A Tradition in Jeopardy
The Enchanted Village remained closed from 1972 until its rebirth in 1990. Then, in 1998, when Macy’s purchased Jordan Marsh, the Village was sold to the City of Boston for a City Hall Plaza display. In 2003, a lack of funding forced the Village to move to the Hynes Convention Center. By 2006, Boston stopped displaying The Village altogether. In 2009, the Village was put up for auction.
A Local Custom Continues
Jordan’s Furniture purchased the surviving pieces of the Enchanted Village at auction in May of 2009 and restored the vintage collection to its former glory. The Village is on permanent display here in Avon, and is open for all to enjoy during the holiday season. Whether you’re reliving your youth or starting a new family tradition, Jordan’s hopes your holidays are as enchanting as the Enchanted Village.
The Village is on permanent display in Avon, and will re-open next winter, 2013

Jack O Lantern Spectacular October 13, 2012

Our first visit to Roger Williams Zoo we discovered the signs for the Jack O Lantern Spectacular. What an amazing time, nighttime in a zoo, over 5,000 carved pumpkins, themed nature walk, we will be going back. WOW!

Shopping and Cranberry Festival October 13, 2012

Took Olivia and Connor for a relaxing day of shopping at Patriot Place. While we were there we found out Ocean Spray was having their annual Cranberry Festival. Olivia and Connor met Pat Patriot as well as two Patriot Cheerleaders and the Rodeo Champions from Maine and Massachusetts. The fresh cranberries were delicious!

Newport September 23, 2012

Took Connor and Olivia to the Cliff Walks in Newport, RI.

Walden Pond and a Revolutionary Adventure Sept 22, 2012

Spent September 22, 2012 at Walden Pond. This was our second trip and one that Olivia had asked for a few months. Perfect fall day to look at leaves and a hike.

From Walden Pond I took Connor and Olivia to the path the Patriot Army took on their way to Cambridge in 1776.  I had recently shared the audiobook 1776 with the kids.
